Opportities to Work and Learn

Mike Higbee and two assisstant beekeepers tending bees in a Rocky Mountain valley with lots of bees and bee boxes. Everyone is wearing veils and beekeeping attire on a hot sunny day.

From Volunteering to Work and Learn and Work/Trade opportunities, Higbee Honey is working to create educational experiences that will benefit our local economies, culture, and ecology.

Volunteer:

Explore the world of bees by volunteering and ride along and assist Mike Higbee as he manages the bees in Higbee Honey's Wasatch mountain apiaries. Put on a bee suit and open up the hives and observe everything about beekeeping including feeding and supplements, inspections, checking frames for queen cups, treating hives for infections and/or parasites, splitting hives, creating nukes, and closing up the hives.

At the end of the season, opportunities to help extract honey are also available.

Work and Learn or Work/Trade:

If you are interested in gaining knowledge and experience in running your own apiary, a season of work and learn may be a perfect fit. It's a more comprehensive experience than volunteering, often requiring a commitment of one day a week for the duration of a honey production season, from May through September.

Work trade may be a great fit for a person willing to spend a month or the whole season managing Higbee Honey Apiaries in trade for honey or honey products. Contact us for details on either option.
